The Afrika Bhukus app is a mobile online Library, Bookstore, and Publishing House for African books written in African vernacular languages. It is the “kindle for Africa”
What is our purpose?
• To give an opportunity to upcoming African authors to publish their books electronically
• To offer authors higher royalties for their work; 70% for books sold or rented
• To create a library and marketplace for books written in African vernacular languages for both authors and readers
What do we do?
• Provide online publishing services for African authors
• Provide a bookstore and library for African readers
• Most importantly we cater for diverse unique African languages and the authors who write in these languages, thereby preserving African vernacular languages and culture
Who do we do it for?
• African authors and readers, who speak, write and read in African languages
How does it work?
For Readers:
• Download the Afrika Bhukus app for free from Google Play Store
• Create an account by signing up
Getting a new book
• Log on to your account
• Click on get new book
• List of books available will be displayed
• You can view books in a category by clicking that category or sliding either side
• Clicking a book gives you more details about that book
• There are two ways of getting a book. 1. Buying and 2. Renting
• Double-click on Buy & the book will be added on to your cart
• To Rent click the + button, the book will be added to your cart with initial window period of 2 weeks
• To increase your window period click the + again another 2 weeks will be added.
• Click the – button to remove a book from your shopping cart.
• Click checkout when you are done shopping
• You will be asked to confirm your order
• Clicking confirm takes to the payment page
• Two options are available. You can use Ecocash or PayPal
Ecocash
• Merchant code: 201283 Merchant Name: Daniel Mutendi
• Short code: *151
• After making payment you will receive a 6 character one time password (OTP)
• Click Submit OTP enter your OTP and submit
• If your OTP is correct your book will start downloading
• An email with your receipt will be send to your registered email address
Paypal
• You will be directed to PayPal log in page, login and make the payment
• Or, you can use any credit or debit card accepted by PayPal to complete your payment
• After successfully paying you will be redirected back to AfrikaBhukus and your book will start downloading
• An email with your receipt will be send to your registered email
Reading a book
• Delete will remove the book from your mobile device
• If you delete a book by mistake you can redownload by doing the following:
• Step 1: Choose Get new book
• Step 2: Open the menu on your left side & choose my account
• Step 3: Under the option download purchased book enter the book ID number and submit
• Note: You get the Book Id from the order history option also under my account
Note: Books are not sharable i.e. the device and Afrika Bhukus app instance you used to purchase the book is the one you should use to read the book.
Rented books
Your window period starts on the day you download a book.
Your book will be automatically removed at the end of your window period
